Privacy is an etiquette, not a feature

A little while ago a person on Twitter that I follow complained about being tagged in a picture, unwanted.

You don't want the interviewer on your next job interview to pull up your embarrassing 5 a.m party pics after the interview. The images were perfectly fine to share with your friends on facebook, but that's about all that's to it.

People should think more carefully about this. Some say that social networks (and other platforms) should protect the privacy of the users.

I don't understand how these systems will help you. They can't. The Internet is like real life. If you're pole it like me you don't talk shit about others. You won't post an embarrassing picture on the wall. Maybe as a joke in the office, but not in the street.

But when you tag a person, basically you post a persons picture in the street. Others will always be able to view it.

People suck at doing lots of things and it takes time to learn the unknown.

If all the people complaining about (I.e. Facebooks) privacy started teaching other people of the effects of their online actions. We would make more progress in changing privacy concerns than when we wait for Facebook to solve it.
